Air Quality

Is your home making you sick? Studies show up to 30% of the air in your home comes from your crawlspace or basement. That said, thinking about indoor air quality is very important when considering home improvements. The slightest changes can make a huge impact on the way your house works; especially if you are planning on air sealing or insulating your home.

If too little outdoor air enters a home, pollutants can sometimes accumulate to levels that can pose health and comfort problems. Outdoor air enters and leaves a house by infiltration (air leaks); through openings, joints, and cracks in walls, floors, and ceilings, and around windows and doors.

Sometimes, homeowners are often concerned about sealing their house too tightly. We understand a certain amount of fresh air is needed for good indoor air quality. If you are concerned about how tight your home is, a Home Performance Contractor, such as Energy Check, can use diagnostic tools to measure your home's actual leakage. If your home is too tight, a fresh air ventilation system may be recommended. Let the home performance experts at Energy Check get to the bottom of your air quality problems and at the same time improve the overall comfort and energy efficiency of your home.

We also perform in-home gas and combustion appliance testing. After any home sealing project, have Energy Check test again and make sure that your combustion appliances (gas- or oil-fired furnace, water heater, and dryer) are venting properly.
